From Language Lover to Professional Translator
My journey into the world of translation began with a deep love for languages. As an undergraduate, I pursued a B.Phil. in German and Russian, captivated by their rich histories and cultures. This passion led me to advanced studies, earning an M.A. and Ph.D. in Russian and an M.A. in Theology. These academic pursuits honed my skills in linguistic precision and cultural understanding, forming the foundation for a career devoted to bridging languages and ideas. Over the years, I’ve cultivated my expertise through immersive experiences abroad in Germany, Russia, and Ukraine, and by translating complex texts across disciplines.
A Career Shaped by Curiosity and Dedication
For over 30 years, I’ve navigated the intersections of language, culture, and knowledge. My professional path includes years of teaching, mentoring, and research as a university professor of modern languages. Alongside this, I worked as a freelance translator, tackling projects that ranged from academic articles to literary works. My experiences in higher education shaped my approach to translation, emphasizing thorough research, attention to nuance, and a deep respect for the material. Whether translating theology, anthropology, or historical studies, my commitment to excellence has always been central.
A Lifelong Commitment to Mastery
What makes a translator truly exceptional? For me, it’s a combination of education, practice, and passion. My academic background equips me with analytical rigor, while years of professional experience have sharpened my ability to adapt to diverse subjects and styles. Beyond my studies and professional roles, I’ve built relationships with texts and people—listening, interpreting, and finding the essence of each project. This journey has not only expanded my knowledge but also affirmed my belief that translation is both an art and a science.
